The Annex
The Annex is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Canada. It is bordered by Bloor Street to the south, Bathurst Street to the west, Dupont Street to the north, and Avenue Road to the east. The Annex is mainly residential, and streets are lined with tall trees dwarfing the large Victorian and Edwardian houses, most of them built between 1880 and the early 1900s. The 1950s and 1960s saw the replacement of some houses with mid-rise (and a handful of high-rise) apartment buildings in the International style. These were surrounded with landscaped green spaces in an attempt to better fit into the neighbourhood. Due to a government freeze on development in 1975 for buildings higher than 45 feet, most of the original houses still exist.
The Annex is a great neighbourhood for those who want to be close to the action but not in the thick of it. Bloor Street offers great shopping and restaurants, while the surrounding neighbourhoods provide an array of parks and green spaces. The Annex is also home to several schools, making it a great choice for families. With its mix of old and new architecture, the Annex is a neighbourhood with character and charm.
As a current Annex resident myself, I can attest to the amazing walk score of 92. With easy access to both subway lines 1 and 2, you can get anywhere in the city quickly and without having to deal with traffic. I’m a frequent customer at many small and large businesses in the area. I really couldn’t ask for more selection when it comes to food! Whether it’s burger and fries from Aunty Lucy’s or a bowl of hand pulled noodles from Superfresh, the Annex has got you covered!
